There was lots of feedback, and it varied, so I had to parse through it and decide what would strengthen the writing without losing my intent.

This is a wonderful essay, Abby. I’ve printed it and am going to refer to it often when I make my second round of submissions. I’ve been in sales, too, and subscribe to the theory. When I got my rejection letter from an agent about my latest romance, I was like, “Cool thanks for the insight.” He’d loved my initial idea, but the first three chapters were not “there yet.” Thanks for the great essay, and for the confirmation that every no is one step closer to a yes. Good for you for persisting on plugging away. I would have loved to have heard more about the specific feedback and how you incorporated, or if you started from scratch, etc. Maybe another essay!
