We take our rights so much for granted. They were won for us at great cost. You are right, we should never forget our sisters who are still not free and there are so many of them.

Your mention of ‘feminist fantasy’ reminded me of something that’s been bothering me. It’s the subgenre called feminist erotica. What makes it ‘feminist’?

I recently published a memoir/personal essay called ‘Burqa to the Loo’ and am wondering if it would/should be called feminist. Please see it here. http://recessmagazine.com/2012/06/burqa-to-the-loo/

This comment will echo through me for days: ‘I find myself thinking about the deep debts I owe to the suffragette generation.’ Thank you. I’m an expat who’s lived in a few developing countries. The very first thing I wrote on the night I finally lived abroad was about women’s actions in China. Their actions mortified me. Then I moved elsewhere and began to see it wasn’t just the Chinese. In countries like this a simple bat of the eye has men running to lift your heavy bags but the simple passing by of another woman has men leaving their wives and kids for another woman. Thank you so much to the Suffragists. Thank you so much Betty Friedan.

Cheers and thanks for the post.
