Such a great tip! So true about conversation coming up easily in this setting. I sold two at the airport on my last trip. A terrific way to lighten the carry-on!

Because if you ever chat with seatmates or the folks in waiting areas, occupation usually comes up.

It’s amazing to see people’s reactions when you say you’re a writer. I’ve sold one at a gate at SFO, and another on my flight from Edmonton to Abbotsford, BC. The couple I sold it to even came to my appearance at the Surrey writers’ conference to get it signed. Try it. It works! 🙂

I recognize it’s not comfortable for everyone but give it a shot in small steps! 🙂 Never know who you’ll meet …!

Great tips! Thanks for sharing! After this article posted – I brought two promised books to someone at tennis, then others saw me giving them to her and I ended up selling 10 more copies (signed). 🙂 Having them handy helps for sure!

When I do achieve an unexpected sale I always offer to sign the book too. One lady bought a copy from me at the train station for her nephew and a couple of weeks later found me out to buy a further copy for a friend she had told about it. I also sell it for less than on my website as I have no postage costs, so the buyer gets a bargain too. Win-Win!

Thanks, Jennifer. Yes, I started college in 1988 too and used those years in the book to write a realistic college experience (I couldn’t easily write what college is like today) and to put some universal truths against the backdrop of another era.

Hope you enjoy the trip back in time. Find me on social media – I’m interested in what you write on parenting. Amen to getting more insurance coverage for doula care – so important in each phase and certainly in the case of hyperemesis. I’m no longer practicing as a doula but I take repeat clients (that’s dwindling) and the novel I’m working on now features a doula.

Thanks for commenting! See you online!

I started college in 1988 and guessing maybe you did too? I saw this article on the Women’s Writers Facebook group and am excited to Tweet it! I write parenting books too and am excited to check out your Naked parenting series! Doulas are so amazing and such an under utilized resource! In my upcoming book, I include my fantasy about insurance companies covering pre-partum doula care for women with severe pregnancy sickness!
