As a girl, I read very few young adult novels…I just didn’t get into them. But I LOVED the novelists my mother read: Maeve Binchy, Taylor Caldwell, Kathleen Norris, Marcia Davenport–to name just a few. I still can’t believe I read them and understood these books at the age of nine and ten. As an adult, I’ve read the Little House Series and Anne of Green Gables and loved them. Why not when I was a kid? But I can honestly say that reading my mother’s books did empower me, and I longed to be a writer like those novelists. I still do. I just keep trying everyday of my life.
