Fun to read your thoughts from 2016, and see you have two winning books out since…that was one momentous camping trip!

But I surely needed to read this right now, so thank you! I have recently been connecting with my eight-year-old muse, and I think I might finally be finding my theme for my memoir. I’ll look for your book, being both a science lover and a writer.
Peace to you.

Thank you Sheila! What scientific field do you work in? I think you’re absolutely right, science can teach people how to look closely, how to follow ideas to their conclusion – vital skills for a writer. Then there is the logic and precision that’s essential for editing I think. Not to mention that both science and writing are driven by a desire to understand the world… There is so much overlap. I’m very grateful for my scientific background, it’s a huge help in my writing. Thank you for the comment 🙂

Thanks Deborah – I absolutely agree, I think science and writing have far more in common than people imagine. Writing is a form of discovery, as you say, and science is deeply creative I think. For me there’s a questioning, a curiosity about the world, that drives both science and writing. Anyway, I do hope you enjoy the book! I’d love to hear what you think. All best wishes, Helen

Patience, tenacity, the willingness to let an idea rest until you’re freezing in the night and you see a story in a whole different light are our tools of the trade, aren’t they? And re: your book –I don’t think it gets much better than the melding of science and literature. Looking forward to reading it. And I wish you lots of success.

As a scientist myself I can relate. But my background in science has made me a better writer I think. I’m observant, and always looking for new clues.
