Welcome to the sunlight, Scarlet. I’m so glad the post is helpful. When you open a Twitter account and set up a blog, please let me know so that I can join you in some writerly rabbity scampering. All the very best with your writing.

I have been a solitary mole, relying on personal contacts for commissions and friends and colleagues punting my work on my behalf. I have only recently emergered, blinking and bleary eyed, into the new world of independent publishers and e books.
Next step is to meet up with writing communities online – as you wisely say – the support and positive critique of fellow tribespeople makes a big difference to how I view and make improvements to my work.

An inspiration! Thanks again!

Ex Mole

Absolutely, I would say writing should be fun anyway. Have a look at the Stephen King quote I put on the latest post here, A Writers Journey,(another travel writer, too) I’m sure you would agree with him. Happy writing, Jo.

I’m sure you’re right, Trish. I think I’m in a different position from most writers – I’m retired, with a pension that gives me enough to live on, and choose to travel rather than own a car, so don’t need to make a living from my writing. So I can notice it, but don’t feel a need to respond to every twist and turn, as I’m having too much fun doing what I’m doing now.

Good to see you, Jo, thank you for commenting and I’m glad you found the post interesting. It was fun to write. It wasn’t intended to be prescriptive, probably we are all Mole and Rabbit in part, or at times. What I do think is important, though, is to stay informed about changes that impinge on us and to be adaptive to opportunities as they arise. But amid all this uncertainty, as writers, I think we need to keep hold of who we are and why we write. And this is not just an issue for writers, but for all creatives in the market place.

(Is there a creature that makes decisions along the it-seems-the-best-thing-to-do-at-the-time lines? I’d like to think I work like a rabbit, but truth to tell I’m far more disorganised than that.)
